A Nuremberg association examines bunkers in and around the city.

In order to find even more such forgotten "treasures", he now appeals to the citizens.

Nuremberg - Bunkers are discovered again and again in Nuremberg and the surrounding area.

Most of them come from the Second World War.

The Förderverein Nürnberger Felsengänge eV makes it possible to visit them.

Due to Corona, the tours have to be canceled until January 9th.

In order to make good use of the waiting time, the association is now addressing the people of Nuremberg with a very special appeal

Nuremberg association with an unusual appeal: citizens can report bunkers

Anyone who knows or suspects where a bunker might be is asked to contact the association.

In the past few years, the association's chairman Ralf Arnold told

inFranken.de

that relevant information had been received again and again .

It is rather the exception when a completely forgotten bunker is found.

Often, however, old shelters are located on company premises.

The employees knew about it, but the bunker was falling into disrepair.

The association wants to find such systems.

With the appeal to the population, you are breaking new ground, explains Arnold: “We have never done anything like this before.

We are pounding into the dark. ”How many bunkers could still be discovered as a result of the action cannot be foreseen.

The association would like to develop a larger group of people who can provide information.

These were the last great finds in the Nuremberg area

The club's last find was a shelter from the Second World War.

In December 2020 in the Gerbersdorf district of Nuremberg.

Inside were original furnishings from the National Socialist era.

About three years earlier, an old splinter protection ditch also made the hearts of bunker fans beat faster.

It is located under a school yard.

Such trenches weren't built to last forever, explains Ralf Arnold to

infranken.de

.

These were makeshift structures in which people could take shelter during a bombing.

The bombs were not allowed to come too close, otherwise the chances of survival were slim.

Where there could still be bunkers

Arnold is certain that there are still “plenty” of such splinter trenches in Nuremberg.

Overall, you have a good overview of the bunkers in the city.

Scientific studies on this were already carried out in the 1970s.

It is primarily about official bunkers that the city of Nuremberg had built for the civilian population.

In addition, official systems are mentioned, for example for the flow of rail traffic.

Arnold is now hoping for bunkers from companies and military bases: "There may still be things that are still relatively unexplored."
