This Saturday, as the whole world welcomes the new civil year, there will be a special and first-of-its-kind celebration in Israel: "Shabbat Novi Good" - a mass gathering attended by people from the Soviet Union and their children, who are interested in celebrating both Novi Good and Shabbat.
The event will be held at the Yaakov Herzog Center in Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, and will combine Shabbat with the beginning of the new year - one that holds a proper Shabbat reception with Shabbat songs, along with raising a glass to mark the civil year.
The special Shabbat will also feature the students of the Tzahali preparatory school operating in the kibbutz, who will come to get a closer look at the heritage of Judaism in the USSR.
The program: lighting candles and "Zakuski" (Russian custom of drinking alcohol accompanied by small plates of appetizers), receiving an Eastern European Shabbat, a Russian gathering, a special reading play from St. Petersburg, meals with traditional kosher food from the USSR, "Durak" games and chess, And conversations between the participants about their Israeli-Russian identity.
Yonatan Dubov, CEO of the Herzog Center and active in the presence of the Russian voice in the Israeli space: "The Novi Good is an opportunity for dialogue and knowledge of the cultural capital of a million immigrants from the USSR, "Expression also for our roots from there. Already two weeks ago all the places ran out, and I am happy to see that there is a demand for this very special combination."
