Every December 29, the inhabitants of the Romanian village of Comanesti join in the tradition that, according to the local culture, drives away the evil spirits of the year that is leaving and welcomes the one that is beginning.
The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages and consists of dressing up as a bear from head to toe and dancing to the beat of drums in front of a crowd on the eve of the new year.
