The incident occurred at about 4 pm today (31st) at Xinhua School on the Eighth Street of Youhan New Village.
Online footage shows that the suspicious man was wearing a safety helmet and was suspected of drenching thinner in front of the school. At that time, a staff member of the school was observing the man's behavior through the school gate, and many passers-by witnessed the man's behavior.
The man then threw away the empty tin can in his hand and squatted down to light the suspected thinner, which immediately caused a fire. The flame was more than ten meters long and a lot of smoke was emitted. The fire alarm in the school immediately sounded.
The man was caught on fire. The clothes on his hands and feet caught fire. He ran back and forth and waved his hands to try to put out the flames. Some enthusiastic people also stepped forward to help with water. The man then took off his clothes and helmet by himself, except for a pair of red underwear. .
Upon receiving the report, the Macao police rushed to the scene and subdued the man on the spot.
The principal of Xinhua School, He Yu, later replied to the Macau media that a total of 630 teachers and students were evacuated in the incident, and no teachers or students were injured.

After finding that there was a fire on the ground, he immediately put out the fire at 4:05 pm with a fire extinguisher.
At the scene, a 21-year-old man who was subdued by the police was also encountered. The man had second-degree burns on his left forearm, left calf, palms of both hands and the back of his hands. The man was consciously sent to the Peak Hospital for treatment.
After on-site inspection, there were traces of thinner and cloth at the incident site, and the Judicial Police Department was immediately notified to investigate. The school involved immediately evacuated 630 teachers and students. No teachers or students were injured in the process. The affected area is about 32 square meters, and the damaged area of the gate, gate lighting equipment and decorations is about 6 square meters.
Deputy Sergeant Zheng Weiqiang of the Transportation Department of the Public Security Police Department also stated that the police received a report at 4 pm that there was a suspected arson person at the junction of Eighth Street and Yongding Street in Youhan New Village. He sent 20 police officers to the scene to investigate, and one was found at the scene. The suspected perpetrator wearing a small amount of clothing was immediately arrested. The man is of Chinese nationality and holds a Macao SAR identity card. When he was subdued, there was no sign of resistance or escape.
After preliminary investigation, it is believed that there is only one perpetrator, and the police will investigate whether the suspect is an alumnus or not.
