On the National Day of the previous year, there were demonstrations in all districts of Hong Kong. During the demonstrations in Wong Tai Sin later turned into conflicts, some people threw hard objects and petrol bombs at the police.
Five of the arrested men denied the crime of rioting and resisting police officers who performed their duties.
After the trial, the District Court judge today (31st) ruled that all defendants were guilty.
The five defendants are Guo Xiaojie (26 years old), Zhang Qichang (21 years old), He Wenqian (26 years old), Wen Zilin (18 years old) and Mai Haowei (23 years old), all charged with one riot and one resistance each. Crime of a police officer performing his duties.
The charges allege that they participated in the riot along with other people in the vicinity of Lung Cheung Road in Wong Tai Sin on October 1, 2019; and they resisted police officers who were performing their duties respectively. Another 14 men and women were found guilty of riots in the Central and Sheung Wan conflict on July 28, and they were convicted of rioting at the end of next month.
