The German organization Sea-Watch announced that the number of migrants that Italy received in its territory in 2021 increased to more than 67,000, after it allowed about 440 migrants who were helped by an organization ship to enter Sicily.
AFP quoted the organization as saying on its Twitter account that the Italian authorities directed the organization's ship to the port of Pozzallo and allowed the four hundred and forty people who were rescued to go ashore.
The ship of the aforementioned non-governmental organization has been sailing off the Libyan coast since November 2017, and is one of the humanitarian ships used by non-governmental organizations to rescue migrants coming from Africa to Europe using rickety boats.
This week, the Italian Minister of the Interior authorized the Gio Barents ship of the Doctors Without Borders organization to dock in the port of Augusta in Sicily, carrying 558 migrants who were treated at sea.
It is noteworthy that the Mediterranean is considered a transit gateway for migrants, and for years has witnessed a wave of migration from the Middle East and North Africa towards European countries due to the spread of chaos and terrorism carried out by extremist groups supported by Western and regional countries.
