The laugh in the flood area was a turning point in Armin Laschet's election campaign.
Now the secret of the memorable moment has been revealed.
Berlin / Erftstadt - Armin Laschet may have had a laugh at the choice: During a visit to the Erftstadt flood area, the CDU candidate for Chancellor at the time laughed during a speech by the Federal President - and was shown live on television.
Apparently he lost some of the trust of the electorate.
Now the reason for Laschet's fatal laugh is known.
Armin Laschet: Laughing him flood area costs him choice
The pictures of the laughing Armin Laschet spread like wildfire on social media.
With consequences: The derailment of Laschet definitely had an impact on the voting decision of some voters, explained a communications expert Merkur.de.
Just a few days ago, Laschet was demonstratively silent about the scene.
But now participants of the event on July 17 reveal the secret of the reason for the slip.
Laschet stood apart with a group of CDU politicians and companions from the region during the Federal President's speech.
As participants of the round now reported to the
editorial network Germany (RND)
, Laschet turned to the district administrator of the Rhein-Erft district, Frank Rock, who was standing next to him, and jokingly criticized him for welcoming the Federal President.
Secret revealed: Armin Laschet laughed at Steinmeier's joke
According to consistent information, the CDU politician teased his party colleagues by saying that he only greeted the head of state with "Mr. Steinmeier" and not as "Mr. Federal President".
Rock then replied that he was so surprised that Steinmeier was "also as small" as Laschet.
A few moments later, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was caught laughing.
As the
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger found out
from those attending the event, he was amused by the journalists on site who twisted themselves to hold their microphones close to the speakers without the cameramen being in the picture.
For Steinmeier, however, the slip had no consequences - he can hope for a second term as Federal President.
Even a later apology from Laschet did not seem to make the mistake forgotten.
Laschet recently explained the creation of another curious photo in the ARD talk “Maischberger”. (sf)
