Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed today that Russia will take the necessary measures in the event that the United States and NATO do not respond to the proposed security guarantees.
"If a constructive response is not taken within a reasonable time and if the West continues its aggressive line, Russia will be forced to take all necessary measures to ensure strategic balance and eliminate unacceptable threats to our security," RIA Novosti quoted Lavrov as saying, noting that his country "will not allow dumping The Russian initiative is in endless discussions.”
Lavrov stressed that the Russian proposals aim to create and legitimize a new system of agreements with the West in the security field, and did not rule out the possibility of new agreements on arms control based on them.
He explained that the new agreements will not resemble the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty and will not even be a modified version of it, indicating that Russia insists on the participation of the American military in the negotiations.
It is noteworthy that the Russian Foreign Ministry distributed on the seventeenth of this month two draft Russian documents on legal security guarantees requested by the United States and NATO regarding their role in Europe.
