Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The Corona crisis has Germany firmly under control. Nevertheless, the challenges in the municipal sector do not solve themselves. The market town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the best example. Whether it's school renovations, the creation of affordable living space, the future of the congress center or recipes against traffic problems: the list of tasks in the district is long - despite tight budgets. The daily newspaper asked the parliamentary groups and soloists in the municipal council to state their priorities for 2022. A summary:

CSU:

Anton Witting, parliamentary group leader of the CSU, takes a pragmatic view: "For the year 2022, the priorities are and will remain the same as in 2021, as these are market measures that extend over several years," he explains. The Christsoziale mentions, among other things, the expansion and renovation of schools, kindergartens and daycare centers, a usage concept for the renovated Olympic ski stadium, flood protection and the planned housing construction in the Burgrain district. According to Witting, the “GaPa 2030 site development plan”, which is primarily intended to clarify how the congress center will proceed, is “very urgent”. This must be "vigorously promoted by GaPa Tourism". And traffic projects (car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic) would have to be reconsidered.

Greens:

"Transparency in local politics" is very important to the Greens. "We stand for maximum publicity in administrative processes," says spokesman Dr. Stephan Thiel - and hands out a swipe: “The First Mayor is increasingly relying on the exclusivity of information for the supporters of her policy.” The eco-party's agenda also includes the creation of a climate-neutral administration as a contribution to the energy transition, the foundation a municipal housing association and new ways of mobility. Thiel: "At the same time, equality between cars, buses, bicycles and pedestrians must finally be achieved." This is currently still a long way off. In addition, the situation of the refugees and homeless is to be improved.

Bavarian party:

The

Bavarian party

is also concerned with the issue of living space. Fractional leader Andreas Grasegger is keeping an eye on locals and young families in particular. He proposes a local model to encourage home construction. "That would be very important to us," emphasizes Grasegger. In the congress house question - a process of citizen participation is underway - one finally has to come to a decision where the journey is going. The Bavarian party has made a commitment: A smaller new building would make the most sense, says Grasegger. Because: “A conversion will be priceless.” And the local politician and his colleagues also have their sights set on the local, small-scale agriculture: They want to keep the controversial combi-husbandry, in which the animals can also be tied up in the stables in winter.

SPD

: "From our point of view, important issues for our place have still not been addressed or only half-heartedly and will therefore remain a high priority for us on the political agenda in 2022," reports SPD spokeswoman Ulrike Bittner-Wolff. This includes the expansion of local public transport including the implementation of the cycle path and parking space concept, the creation of affordable living space and a swift decision on the future of the congress center. In addition, to name other examples, the Social Democrats are in favor of implementing Andreas Salsamendi's concept for the exhibition “The Flipside of the Medal”, for implementing the inclusion concept that has been adopted and for developing new ideas for housing the homeless.

CSB:

"The CSB continues to stand for social commitment", emphasizes Second Mayor Claudia Zolk - especially for the renovation of the elementary and middle schools as well as the day-care centers that have started. An important point for the group is to find or build suitable housing for the homeless. And she is also pressing the accelerator on the big issue of the Kongresshaus. Zolk: “We have to finally create facts here in 2022. What do we want to develop for the location and how can this project be implemented with old or new buildings. What are the financing plans for each? ”In addition, the CSB supports the application for the 2027 Ski World Cup and a DFB Basecamp for the 2024 European Championship.

Free voters I:

The Congress House also has the Free Voters faction on the to-do list: “After the citizen participation process has been completed, there must finally be a forward-looking decision. The current lack of planning not only puts a heavy strain on our budget, it also offers our store's subsidiary, GaPa Tourismus, no prospects, ”explains chairman Daniel Schimmer. In addition to the topic of living space, his group deals with two major events that are coming up in the region in the coming year: the Passion Play in Oberammergau and the G7 summit in Elmau. This is a challenge, but also promises economic gain for many Garmisch-Partenkirchen businesses, says Schimmer, who is also the local chairman of the hotel and restaurant association.

FDP:

FDP lone fighter Martin Sielmann has set himself a long program. In his opinion, the most pressing problem is the creation of affordable housing. “The decade-long trend that apartments are falling out of social ties without new ones being built must be reversed,” he explains. The municipality must take action itself, buy or designate building land, build quarters and enable young, local families to build in the course of the heritable building right. The liberal also calls for a redesign of Marienplatz and Bahnhofstrasse, for the introduction of a modern local bus system based on the Murnau model and, in terms of the congress center, for the implementation of the referendum from 2019, i.e. for a renovation including careful expansion.

GAP with each other:

"The tasks of the next few years are enormous, while the scope for action is getting smaller and smaller,"

says

Anton Hofer, local council of Garmisch + Partenkirchen. Therefore, a “strict prioritization of expenses and far-sighted reason when making substantive decisions” will be more important than ever. Hofer does not sound very optimistic, however: “It is more than questionable whether the majority in the local council will recognize this bitter truth and act, or would rather drift from one castle in the air to the next using a table template.” On the other hand, there were necessary projects like the long overdue one Redevelopment of schools and kindergartens at a very early planning stage. The increase in costs in the construction sector will make financing increasingly difficult.

Free Voters II:

Lilian Edenhofer, who sits on the committee as a non-attached Free Voter after a break with her party colleagues, has a somewhat frustrated tone: “Now I could tell you the same things that are always current year after year have to be tackled in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

But where unfortunately nothing moves.

Affordable living space, bike paths, child-friendly commune and so on. ”At least one should try, she believes,“ to preserve the few beautiful, original corners that have remained in our place ”and to remove“ dirty corners ”- instead of“ luxury condominiums " let develop.

Edenhofer also demands "maximum transparency" from the mayor and the administration.
