A case of Omicron, a variant of the new crown pneumonia virus, appeared in the local community, and the first case of a serious illness was recorded.
On New Year’s Eve yesterday (December 31, 2021), 16 cases were initially diagnosed, including a female ground handler who was responsible for handling transit passengers at the airport. She lives in Block 2, Chun Wang Xuan, Tin Shui Wai. The test notice revealed that she had visited several restaurants after becoming ill.
There were 87 Omicron cases in Hong Kong as of yesterday, and today it may exceed 100 on New Year's Day in 2022.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Chen Zhaoshi, said that the next few days to two weeks will be a critical moment in the fight against the epidemic, and the public is urged to avoid crowds or gatherings without masks during the New Year.
Quarantine arrangements for Hong Kong crew members have been tightened today. Cargo aircraft crew members who have been outside the mainland and overseas must be quarantined at the hotel for at least 7 days after returning to Hong Kong.
