After a pipeline leak, a platform in Iran's largest natural gas field in the waters of the Gulf is out of order.
"The gas pipeline from platform 16 of the South Pars gas field began to leak on the ocean floor on Friday," the Pars Oil and Gas Company said on Saturday.
According to this, gas caught fire on the sea surface after a lightning strike 15 kilometers from the platform.
However, the fire was extinguished.
"The location of the leak has been found, all outlets of the platform have been closed and the leak has been completely contained," said the statement, which was published by the Iranian oil ministry-affiliated Shana news agency.
More repairs are now underway, which could take some time, said South Pars production manager Aliresa Ebadi on Iranian state television.
The South Pars field is part of the largest natural gas field in the world.
In addition to Iran, Qatar is also exploiting the gas field.
There are 24 platforms on the Iranian side.
