The German Bundestag parties received 12.4 million euros in 2021.

They are distributed quite differently between the government and the opposition.

Berlin - Bundestag election time is also party donation time.

The election year brought the parties represented in the Bundestag a real blessing from large donations - albeit with major differences.

From these donations of more than 50,000 euros, they received almost exactly 12.4 million euros, as the publication by the German Bundestag shows.

For comparison: in the previous year, i.e. in 2020 a year without a federal election, companies, business associations and individuals only donated a good 2.2 million euros.

Classically, such large donations increase significantly in election years.

In the 2017 federal election year, for example, these amounted to around 6.59 million euros.

Large donations in 2021: FDP in front, SPD behind - that's how much the parties received

If you look at the respective parties, there are clear differences in the amount of donations.

This time the FDP had a particularly large number of patrons, with revenues of around 4.43 million euros.

In other words: every third large donation went to the Free Democrats.

It is followed by the Greens with 3.44 million.

The eco party received more than one million euros from a Dutch entrepreneur - a donation of 1.25 million euros is the highest donation amount in the party's history.

Just behind the Greens, the CDU lands with just under 3.39 million euros.

The Union - i.e. CDU plus CSU - comes to around 4.26 million euros.

All other parties are far behind.

The SPD only made three donations totaling 225,001 euros, the Left received 55,000 euros once.

The AfD came out completely empty.

The Südschleswigsche Voters' Association is not included in the list.

The SSW made it to the Bundestag after the general election and has a seat there. It is a minority party (the Danish minority in Schleswig-Holstein) with different rules that are not comparable to the established parties.

Donations come in the form of donations from the Danish state.

The Copenhagen Ministry of Culture transferred four installments of 124,260.26 euros to the South Schleswig voters' association in 2021, a total of almost half a million euros.

Party donations: You only need to report from 10,000 euros

Political parties in Germany are mainly financed by membership fees, money from the state and donations.

The parties must immediately report individual donations of over 50,000 euros to the President of the Bundestag, who must publish the information promptly.

Donations of 10,000 euros or more must be recorded in the statement of accounts with the name and address of the donor and the total amount.

Means: Donations of up to 9999 euros do not have to be reported.

Ex-Health Minister Jens Spahn benefited from this last year.

On the sidelines of a dinner with entrepreneurs, donations were made to the district association of the CDU politician.

To this day it is unclear by whom, Spahn did not want to name.

The numbers for 2021 are as of December 30th.

There may still be occasional republication by the Bundestag administration.
