Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov stressed that the demand by some former US officials to impose sanctions against Russia is an attempt to play a sabotage role in the upcoming talks on security guarantees between the two sides.
Sputnik quoted Pushkov as saying in a statement today, "The threats made by a number of former American officials regarding the so-called (hell sanctions) instead of providing guarantees to Russia are a sure way to disrupt the negotiations."
Pushkov's comment came in response to information that a group of 24 US officials and former ambassadors to Russia Michael McFaul and Alexander Vershbow called on US President Joe Biden to immediately impose sanctions on Russia in the event of the alleged Russian (invasion) of Ukraine.
Russia had confirmed the day before yesterday that it would ask the United States, during discussions that the two countries will hold this month, regarding security guarantees, to stop the expansion of NATO to the east and not to deploy weapons that threaten Russia near its borders.
