Five people were killed today in a house fire in the village of Khomotovo, near the Irkutsk region of Russia.
"An eyewitness reported that a fire broke out in a two-storey building in the village of Khomotovo in the Irkutsk region this morning, and when the fire engines arrived, the entire building was surrounded by fire," RIA Novosti news agency quoted the Russian Investigative Committee as saying.
The investigation committee added: "The fire resulted in the death of three women, a man and an 11-year-old child, and another man was taken to hospital."
The area of the fire was 216 square metres, and after an hour, firefighters were able to control it, while the local authorities are conducting investigations to determine its causes and circumstances.
