The World Health Organization classified computer game addiction as a recognized disease, explaining that it had added it to the 11th International Classification of Diseases that it had been developing for 10 years.
The organization said in a message on its website today, "It has classified computer game addiction as an addictive behavior disorder," noting that it causes negative consequences for the child's health, specifically, such as visual impairment, curvature of the spine and insomnia.
Several years ago, the World Health Organization defined video game addiction as a separate disease but did not offer a general system for its diagnosis and treatment.
In 2019, the first clinical case of hospitalization of adolescents due to video game addiction was recorded, and previously similar cases were recorded, but with adult gamers.
