A tornado watch is in effect for parts of southern Kentucky and western Tennessee until 6 p.m. CST, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Alert cities include Nashville and Bowling Green.
An intensifying squall line spreading into the region is producing thunderstorms with damaging winds of up to 120 km / h.
A couple of storms could produce a strong tornado, says SPC.
Damaging tornadoes struck parts of this same region during the December 10-11, 2011 outbreak.

This is likely to be the first of several tornado watches to be issued during the afternoon and evening as the storm threat develops.
