Chicago records highest homicide rate in 2021

The police in the American city of Chicago revealed that the year 2021 ended as one of the most violent years in the city's history.

And the Associated Press quoted Chicago police as saying that 797 murders were recorded in the city during 2021, the highest rate since 1996 and more than any other city in the United States.

She explained that "this number represents an increase of about 25 murders from what was witnessed in 2020 and an increase of 299 accidents from what was recorded during 2019".

The city police recorded 3,561 shootings during 2021, in contrast, the killings in New York and Los Angeles were 300 fewer during the past year compared to Chicago.

In turn, Officer David Brown of the Chicago Police stated that many families suffered from the loss of people due to irrational violence, indicating that in an attempt to address the violence, there is an intention to employ more officers to contain these incidents during the new year.

As for Washington, DC, it recorded the 200th murder in 2021 last November, the highest rate it has reached since 2003.

Shooting incidents are common in the United States, with the spread of a culture of violence in American society and the right to own a single gun.
