Tonight (Sunday), Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will deliver a statement from his office in Jerusalem, regarding the continuation of the treatment of the Omicron variant.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is considering reducing the obligation to have tests to Corona so that it only applies to people aged 60 and over or to people with Corona symptoms.

This, following the great criticism leveled today against the policy of the ministry and the government and the long queues at the test stations.

The ministry explained that the policy is being considered in light of the understanding that the number of verified people will increase significantly in the coming days, but no decision has yet been made on the issue.

This morning at the cabinet meeting, Bennett said in relation to the Omicron wave that we "are likely to see a doubling and a doubling of doubling already in the coming days".

According to him, one must prepare for a situation where there will be tens of thousands verified a day.

"The health care system is being prepared," Bennett said, examining the experience gained in South Africa, the United States and other countries.

"The goal is to enable a functioning economy, while maintaining the most vulnerable within us," he said.

Bennett admitted that the heavy workload in the hospitals and the number of verified ones reaching tens of thousands poses great difficulty logistically.

"These are numbers that the world did not know, and neither do we. The storm is coming these days. It will be difficult, but in responsible and correct behavior we will overcome it."
