A 34-year-old hiker from Porto Sant'Elpidio (Fermo) died after slipping into a crevasse, while walking the path that leads from the Rifugio del Farnio to Pintura di Bolognola (Macerata), in the Sibillini Mountains.
He fell for about 250 meters and died instantly from severe fractures.
With him was his 35-year-old partner who also slipped, but managed to cling to the vegetation.
It was his desperate cries that attracted the attention of other hikers who raised the alarm.
On the spot, teams of the Alpine Rescue, the firefighters and the carabinieri intervened.
The recovery and rescue operations were not easy due to the ice and wind.
Two helicopters failed to arrive on site: 'Drago' from the fire brigade, and Icaro 02 from 118. So the body was reached by land by the Alpine rescue and firefighters.
The woman was also rescued, who suffered only minor injuries, and was hospitalized in Camerino hospital.
