Exciting evaluation for all music fans: What was the most played 80s song on German radio in 2021?
The answer was New Year's Eve at Bayern 1 - and it was a surprise.
Munich - If you really wanted to hear all the songs, you needed a lot of sitting or rather patience while listening: Bayern 1 put a special countdown on New Year's Eve to 15 hours from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The broadcaster had it evaluated which songs from the 80s were played most often on the radio stations in 2020.
The list was determined by the Erlangen company Musictrace, as moderator Ulla Müller explained shortly after 5.
Her colleague Philipp Eger added in the early evening that all German channels had been included.

At around 7:55 p.m. Bayern 1 let the cat out of the bag - and satisfied the curiosity of all fans of 80s music.

But it only got a boost in recent years.

And: The station EgoFM played “Africa” several hours in a loop for a good cause, wrote in 2020: “The hype surrounding the song is more gigantic than ever. Countless articles want to explain why that is - because 'Africa' fits the new wave of 80s nostalgia, or because the internet has a tendency to do absurd things. Even if there is certainly a bit of truth to it, the strongest reason is still the gut feeling. You can really only sing along to this song. "
Incidentally, in previous comparable evaluations, “Africa” still missed the top spot.
In 2020 it landed in third place in the corresponding Bayern 1 ranking (at the front: "Every breath you take" by The Police).
According to radioszene.de, Musictrace also evaluated the German stations in 2018 - at that time, "Africa" was only ranked 12th in the ranking of the most played radio hits of the 80s. The popularity surge for the song apparently only followed in recent years.
And which songs landed after “Africa” in the list of the most played 80s songs on German radios in 2021?
Second place went to “Take on me” by A-Ha, followed by “Down under” (Men At Work), “Every breath you take” by The Police and “Big in Japan” (Alphaville).
