Rare defection: A man crosses the border from the south to North Korea Israel today

2022-01-02T15:36:07.125Z

The South Korean Ministry of Defense said the man was documented by cameras and other surveillance devices as he crossed the border • A Border Police force tried to reach the man but was unable to reach him • Recall, North Korea has closed its borders almost completely since the outbreak of the corona plague

An unusual incident in South Korea:

An unidentified man crossed the border into North Korean territory, after he managed to evade the South Korean border guard, at one of the most fortified borders in the world.

The South Korean Ministry of Defense told the state news agency in the country "UNHAPP" that the man was documented by cameras and other surveillance devices as he crossed the border.

It was further reported that a Border Police force tried to reach the man, who crossed the border into an isolated and difficult-to-access area, but was unable to reach it before crossing into North Korean territory.

Authorities in Seoul have asked North Korea to locate and return the man, whose identity is unknown, but no response has been received from Pyongyang's liaison office.

In the south, the man's life is feared, due to the fact that North Korea's border guards have opened fire on entering the country illegally since the corona plague began, in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus and control movement at the borders.

The south does not know if the person documented crossing the border is a South Korean citizen or a North Korean citizen who made a mistake and tried to return to his country.

In the past, there have been cases of South Korean citizens defecting to the North, mainly due to debts or a difficult mental state.

In September of 2020, North Korean border guards shot dead a civilian from the south, who made a mistake in an area where the border line is not well marked.

Earlier that year, the border town of Ksong Boshma was in complete disarray after a city resident, a man who defected from south to north, returned to it illegally.

The fate of the defector is unknown to this day.

North Korea has closed its borders almost completely since the outbreak of the corona plague and authorities in the country claim that almost no cases of the virus have been detected in the country, which is in a deep economic crisis and its population is suffering from starvation.

However, few fugitive reports that have managed to get out of the country indicate that the virus has spread and authorities have acted cruelly to stop the outbreak.
