IG Metall wants to represent as many employees as possible in the new factory of the car manufacturer
Tesla
in Grünheide. "We have opened an office very close to the factory premises and are available to employees for questions of any kind," said the IG Metall district manager for Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony, Birgit Dietze, of the German press agency. She named job interviews, employment contracts and everyday work at Tesla as topics. "Of course we also support the works council election. And we are available for union questions: pay, length of working hours, shift issues and so on."
In the future, around 12,000 employees in Grünheide are expected to build up to 500,000 electric cars a year; production is expected to start at the beginning of the year.
According to the union's knowledge, 1,800 employees had been hired by Christmas.
"We are assuming that the first production stage will start with around 6,000 employees."
"Tesla stock options only on top of the tariff salary"
More industry will settle around the plant, said Dietze.
"With regard to the transformation, it is necessary to take the employees with you," she emphasized.
«We are not the dinosaurs of the industrial age, we are looking forward with progress.
We are actively involved in questions of shaping industrial policy. "
Should there one day come to collective bargaining between the union and Tesla, a point of contention would already be foreseeable.
According to their findings, part of the Tesla remuneration should be achieved through stock options, said Dietze.
"Optionally on top of a secure tariff standard like that of the tariff landscape of the metal and electrical industry, we would have no objection", explained the union.
"What, in the opinion of our members, generally does not work, however, is that parts of the remuneration are so flexible that the employee does not know exactly: What will come out for me at the end of the month or the year?"
