Although many praised Skyler for her tip, there were others who warned of the long-term effects that the way she chose to clean had.

"Never pour hot water down the toilet," wrote one respondent, with many agreeing with him and writing similar things.

It turns out that their concern is that hot skies may ruin the seal between the toilets and the house pipes, and cause a leak.

This concern was confirmed to the British SUN by experts from a plumbing company who claimed that boiling water could cause cracks in the porcelain.

However, the company claims that using hot water, rather than boiling water, will not do any damage to the pipes or sealing.

There are other ways to clean the toilet brush for people who are still afraid of using hot water.

One respondent suggested moving to a brush made of silicone that is easier to clean, and others suggested spraying the brush with detergent and letting it dry before putting it back in place.
