35 fires are still active in Asturias

The wave of fires that the Cantabrian coast suffers in the first days of the year has given this Monday a slight respite. Of the 93 fires that remained active in Asturias this Sunday, it had dropped to fifty early today, a balance that has dropped to 43 in the one o'clock update published by the Principality Emergency Service ( SEPA) and finally to 35 in the update of seven in the afternoon. The fires, mostly intentional, have been caused by the high temperatures registered in the Peninsula, above the average of the usual ones for the beginning of January, to which dry winds from the south have been added.

The Principality maintains the zero situation of the emergency phase for fires that it decreed last day 31. This level, included in the Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fires of the Principality of Asturias (Infopa), implies that the usual resources are activated, without need that special operations are used and that, even if the fire is particularly unfavorable, it does not pose a danger to people who are not part of the extinguishing checkpoints.

There have been no casualties in any of the fires.

On the morning of this Monday, the extinction work was concentrated in those located in the councils of Mieres, Teverga and Ponga, in the central interior area of ​​the Asturian community;

de Aller, which borders the province of León;

in Tineo and Cangas del Narcea, in the western half;

and also in the coastal Llanes.

In Mieres, the Asturian Firefighters were working this Monday on two fires declared in the Ablaña area, to which were added another two in Teverga (in the Taja area) and another two in Tineo (in La Cerezal), but to throughout the day one has been controlled in each locality. The situation in Aller seems more complex, with six fires, which have required the intervention, in addition to the Principality's firefighters, an air force and the preventive work brigade of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which are focused on the Orillés area. Five fires were still active in Cangas de Narcea at noon, which were reduced to four in the afternoon, when three in San Martín del Rey Aurelio and another three in Belmonte de Miranda were considered extinct. In Llanes, two fires were still active at seven in the afternoon and another two in Allande,in the center-west of the region.

Together with the Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA) the agents of the natural environment, forest cooperatives and the preventive work brigades of the Ministry of Ecological Transition collaborate in extinctions, the SEPA has been published on its website.
