On Christmas Eve, Anton Hartl, known to many as "Baur z'Machtenstoa", died suddenly and unexpectedly.

Machtenstein

- He was born 83 years ago as the oldest of four brothers.

For eight years he attended the elementary school in Kreuzholzhausen and later the agricultural school in St. Ottilien.

After school, he worked on his parents' farm, which he took over from his mother in 1972 and later rebuilt it with his wife according to his ideas and brought it up to date.

He came into contact with the subject of death very early on.

At the age of six he witnessed the bombing of Machtenstein in 1944.

The bricklayer's neighboring property was completely destroyed, and in the wagon house on the parents' farm there were two servants and three young people who all died.

Four years later, his father had a fatal accident while demolishing the barn.

Anton Hartl: The death of his grandson took him a lot

At the age of 26 he married Marianne Meir.

Together they had their three children Done, Peter and Traudi, and over the years four grandchildren.

But then he was deeply affected when grandson Florian died very early.

Thanks to his craftsmanship, Anton Hartl was a passionate tinkerer all his life.

With his machines he not only tilled and harvested his own fields, but also helped the farmers from Machtenstein and the surrounding area.

In the 80s he designed and built an additional motor for the tractor of the MB-trac series according to his ideas in order to increase the performance when chopping maize.

With the help of the Machtensteiner and the Schützen members, a large hall was built on his property in a very short time in 1979.

Immediately after completion, the inauguration of the flag was celebrated with the 100th anniversary of the riflemen.

He always had an “open gate for everyone” - also for the boys in the village, who for years held their legendary indoor festivals on his farm.

He loved the conversation and the exchange of views with his regulars and the young people, and he was always open to new ideas.

He was particularly interested in the energy transition.

Until the end, he took notes and created statistics for the energy consumption for power generation from photovoltaics, the wood chip heating system and a joint sewage system.

and devoted himself to reading specialist magazines at the weekend.

He enjoyed taking part in educational trips organized by the Association for Agricultural Training in Dachau with his wife and was also happy to be out with his friends.

With Anton Hartl, Machtenstein has lost a man full of energy, who was highly committed and exemplary for the coexistence of generations.
