In the northeast, many people demonstrated again in 2022 against what they considered to be the too strict Corona restrictions.

But since fewer people came to Rostock, the total number declined.

Rostock / Schwerin / Neubrandenburg / Greifswald - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, thousands of people again protested against restrictions in the corona pandemic and compulsory vaccination. As police spokesman said, a total of around 12,000 people in more than 20 cities took part in registered light walks, rallies and unregistered silent marches on the first Monday of the new year. That was about 3,000 less than a week ago. There were occasional counter rallies - according to the police, there were initially no incidents worth mentioning.

The decline was most evident in Rostock, where the police registered around 4,000 protesters.

In Schwerin around 2000 people moved through the city, around 1800 in Neubrandenburg moved late after a heavy hail shower.

There were larger protest marches in Greifswald, Waren, Neustrelitz, Güstrow and Wismar.

There were also minor protests in many cities such as Parchim, Plau, Teterow, Ribnitz-Damgarten, Stralsund, Röbel and Ludwigslust.

The people of Rostock moved through the city on the intended route.

Most of the time, the current duty of mouth and nose protection was not complied with.

In contrast to the demonstration a week ago, the police had blocked alternative routes this time.

In Schwerin, the participants protested during a march through the city center against the restrictions in everyday life and the federal government's plans to introduce a general compulsory vaccination.

In Greifswald, around 400 to 500 critics of the Corona measures faced a large group of counter-demonstrators.

These had gathered under the motto “Vaccination - Responsibility and Solidarity!”.

One of the speakers was the Lord Mayor of Greifswald, Stefan Fassbinder (Greens).

The police largely separated the groups from one another, but there were also sit-ins when the critics of the Corona measures wanted to go out.

In Neubrandenburg, the procession of lights had the motto "For one another, togetherness - the Basic Law applies to everyone".

There were also posters with the words "Peace with Russia".

The highest number of protests occurred a few days before Christmas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, when around 17,000 participants were counted - 10,000 of them in Rostock alone.
