The Minister of Religions has previously promised that as part of the reform, the authority of the Chief Rabbinate to convert will be preserved.

The conversion law of the Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana, will allow conversion outside the Chief Rabbinate, according to the wording of the latest draft law, which reached Israel Today.

The wording indicates that despite Minister Kahana's obligations that the reform will preserve the authority of the Chief Rabbinate, an examination of the sections of the law reveals that the powers of the Chief Rabbinate are denied to it and move to a new district to be established, and not subject to the Chief Rabbinate's ruling.

Kahana also undertook that his law be approved by Rabbi Chaim Druckman on its sections and details.

Mitigation threshold conditions

In recent weeks the political system has been turbulent around the conversion reform.

Under the coalition agreements, the partnership undertook to enact a conversion law within 60 days of the formation of the government.

Only last week, a bill was rejected at the last minute by MK Yulia Malinowski from Yisrael Beiteinu, which sought to establish conversion routes outside the Chief Rabbinate.

The new framework - a district rabbinical district - in which every mayor can establish a tribunal for conversion, not only in his city but throughout the country, and not just one tribunal but as many as he wants, and that the chief rabbinate will have almost no option to torpedo Not worthy. The law now states that the chief rabbi has the exclusive authority to approve conversions. This authority allows the Chief Rabbi to determine the halakhic standard for conversion. The new law abolishes the exclusive authority of the chief rabbi, and transfers it to an official appointed by the minister himself. The law sets mitigating threshold conditions for rabbis who will convert outside the framework of the Chief Rabbinate. This section will in fact create a significant priority for conversion outside the framework of the Chief Rabbinate.

Minister Kahana also promised that the chief rabbinate would be given the authority to oust Dayan, through the steering committee that would be set up, which will have five members.

In Minister Kahana's office, things are being postponed.

According to sources in his environment, since the minister began working on the law, the proposal has undergone many amendments and many drafts, and the current proposal will also undergo changes, they said.

The minister's entourage admitted that Rabbi Druckman surprised them with his fierce opposition, but said that the conversation with him would continue.
