U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was positive for Corona yesterday (Sunday) and is suffering from mild symptoms.

His office said he would hold his meetings virtually while in solitary confinement at his home for the next five days.

Austin's contagion comes after the Pentagon last week tightened restrictions at its headquarters for fear of illness at Omicron.

Austin, who is vaccinated with three doses the last of which he received in October, said in a statement that he last met US President Joe Biden on December 21, more than a week before he began to feel symptoms. "And the booster I got in early October made my illness much easier than it would have been if I hadn't been vaccinated," Austin said.

He said he was asked to be tested on Sunday after experiencing symptoms while on vacation at his home. The last time he was at the Pentagon was on Thursday. He is one of the most senior members of Biden's administration to be found positive for Corona, after Interior Minister Alejandro Mallorks was found positive for the virus in October.

Austin said he plans to attend meetings as much as possible and will oversee the continued activities of the Department of Defense and oversee military activities around the world. He said his deputy, Kathleen Hicks, would replace him in managing several issues.

The U.S. military is also facing a challenge to maintain force readiness, and often imposes closures on crews of ships and aircraft. About 98 percent of the soldiers in the service have been vaccinated against Corona, as they are now committed. "Austin

authorities have registered at least 346,869 new people infected with the corona virus on Saturday," Reuters said. Count of the Dead in the USA "In Corona it rose by at least 377 to 828,562.

Demonstration in Amsterdam against corona restrictions in the Netherlands, yesterday (Photo: Reuters)

Thousands of people demonstrated in Amsterdam yesterday in protest against corona restrictions in the Netherlands.

"This is Holland! Power for the people!"

Exclaimed one protester.

According to an AFP reporter, the protesters gathered in one of the city's main squares, even though the authorities had banned the demonstration before.

According to a report by the Public Broadcasting Corporation (NOS), in clashes with police, several people were lightly injured and security forces made arrests.

The demonstration took place in the shadow of the closure imposed by Prime Minister Mark Ruta a week before Christmas in response to the outbreak of the Omicron wave in the country.

Non-essential shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters and museums are expected to remain closed until 14 January and schools will remain closed until 9 January.

Morbidity records in China

In the city of Xi'an in northern China, which has been closed for a week and a half, a decrease in coronary heart disease has been observed.

90 new infections with the virus were found in the past day, down from 122 cases the day before.

Since December 9, more than 1,600 cases of infection have been reported in the city.

Beijing is taking a “zero morbidity” approach that includes tight restrictions and targeted closures since the virus first appeared.

Although the Corona data reported in China are low compared to other places in the world, the number of new infections in recent days has reached an unseen peak in the country since March 2020. The jump comes as Beijing prepares to host next month’s Winter Olympics.

Xi’an, home to famous terracotta warriors statues, has become the country’s main contagion center as authorities have ordered all 13 million residents to stay at home and conduct rounds of mass inspections in recent weeks.

"We have entered a state of general attack," county official Liu Gujong said in an official statement, adding that it was necessary to achieve the goal of clearing the company of corona as soon as possible.

On Sunday, Xi'an municipality announced that two senior members of the Communist Party of Yanta province had been removed from office, according to local media, in an attempt to "strengthen the work to prevent epidemics and control" in the area.

Last month, China's disciplinary body announced that dozens of officials had been punished for "insufficient care in preventing and controlling the outbreak."

Local residents have told the media in recent days that they are struggling to find enough food, even though Chinese authorities have insisted they are working to ensure a stable supply.
