Ziadeh pointed out that the total area planted with the Damascene rose amounted to 291 hectares and the number of bushes was 116,000, with an expected yield of 2 kilograms per hectare, and a production of about 58 tons for green roses and more than 193 kilograms for dry roses, while the number of farmers reached 368 in the Nabek region, indicating that the planned area was increased. For the next season, it will reach 351 hectares.
In a related context, he announced the completion of the cultivation of 450 dunums of wheat, barley and vetch crops using the method of conservation agriculture in Deir al-Asafeer and Deir Maker within the project implemented by the Directorate of Agriculture in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, which targeted about 90 farmers.
The Director of Agriculture explained that the system of conservation agriculture was applied on an area of 5 dunums in the farmers’ fields compared to planting another 5 dunums in the traditional farming method with the aim of enabling farmers to notice the differences in production between the two methods, noting that this farming improves soil properties, reduces costs, increases yields and enhances sustainability.
