The authorities in the Republic of South Africa announced that a fire broke out for the second time in two days in the Parliament building in Cape Town today.
Jermaine Karls, a spokesman for the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, said that 30 firefighters were returned to the area in central Cape Town after the flames reappeared on the roof of the main parliament building in the afternoon, about 36 hours after the attack. It erupted in the 130-year-old historical buildings complex,” noting that “the fire yesterday destroyed the main parliament hall.”
The authorities announced yesterday that the fire was contained and that they began assessing the damage before the fire started to flare up again, while the role of the man who was arrested and interrogated today by the police in relation to the fire is still ambiguous, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but the authorities did not comment further. on his involvement or any possible motives other than to say he is likely to be charged with breakage, entry, theft and arson.
The man also faces charges under South Africa's National Key Points Act, a security law that restricts access to government buildings and other places of national importance.
