Several French lawmakers have revealed they have received death threats as parliament debates a bill that would require people to prove they have received vaccinations before entering restaurants and cinemas.

The Reuters news agency that dozens of French parliamentarians said they had received death threats, while others were attacked, including vandalism, by suspected protesters against the forced vaccination campaigns.

The new legislation, which will eliminate the option of showing a negative test result instead of receiving vaccines, has the support of most parties and is almost certain to be approved in the House of Representatives in a vote scheduled today or tomorrow, Tuesday.

And Interior Minister Gerald Dermannan said last week that police would beef up their protection of MPs after members of parliament, including ruling party lawmaker Barbara Beso Ballu, announced they had received death threats.

France has the largest number of vaccine skeptics than its neighbors in the European Union, but it has one of the highest vaccination rates in the Union, with about 90 percent of those aged 12 or over receiving the vaccines.

According to the latest toll announced by the French Ministry of Health, the total number of infections in the country reached 10,250,358, while the total number of deaths reached 123,942.
