The Munich SPD will get a new chairman, because Claudia Tausend is no longer running.

Two city councilors are applying for her successor: Christian Vorländer and Christian Köning.

The party congress should take place on January 22nd - provided Corona allows it.

Munich - 1000 board meetings in 20 years, seven of them as chairwoman - but now it's over: Munich's SPD leader Claudia Tausend is no longer available for re-election. “I think that's right. There will be a very big upheaval. ”Because not only does she not stand at the party congress on January 22nd, SPD Vice-President Florian von Brunn is also declining to run again. He is now state chairman. Meanwhile, there are two applicants for a thousand successors, parliamentary group vice-president Christian Vorländer and city councilor Christian Köning. It is time for a renewal, says Tausend. “A good two thirds of the 43 local chairmen are now between 28 and 45 years old,” says the 57-year-old. The process of realignment began long ago at the base, and Tausend now wants to pave the way at the top.

Claudia Tausend was active on the board of the SPD Munich for 20 years

The member of the Bundestag has been a member of the SPD since 1990.

She was an assessor in the party executive committee, from 2007 to deputy chairwoman and since 2014 boss.

She was a member of the city council from 1996 to 2013, since then she has sat in the Bundestag, and most recently moved back into parliament in 2021.

Elections are also a good keyword, four polls relevant for the Munich Social Democrats are due by 2026: the state elections in the coming year, the European elections in 2024, the federal elections in 2025 and those for the city council in 2026. “We have to prepare,” says Tausend.

The task now is to find a board of directors who will then, in two years' time, set up the team for the Munich local election campaign, an OB candidate and lead the comrades in the long term.

A board that also collects the party again after Corona.

"Like many other clubs, we are there, only video conferences are not good for social life."

Successor to SPD chairmanship: Christian Köning takes on Christian Vorländer

Comrades who dare to do all of this have already been found with Vorländer (48) and Köning (33). In the meantime, city councilor Lena Odell is said to be interested in the deputy position of Florian von Brunn. Assessor Anno Dietz should be enthusiastic about the office of the party vice-president Roland Fischer, who has since stepped down. The other deputies, Mayor Verena Dietl, City Councilor Micky Wenngatz, Secretary Gesche Hoffmann-Weiss and Treasurer Gerhard Mayer, want to run again, and fluctuation is to be expected at the post of assessors. The candidates are to introduce themselves in rounds on January 11th and 18th.

It is unclear whether the party congress will take place.

"If things continue like this with Omikron, I don't know whether we can pull it off like this," says Tausend. After all, employees still have to be on site.

One thing is certain, however, no matter who will be her successor: He will have at least one important say about the OB candidacy for the year 2026. Because then it will also be the end of town hall boss Dieter Reiter.
