An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked the islands of Vanuatu in the South Pacific today, without any reports of casualties or injuries.

The Russian agency, Sputnik, quoted the US Geological Survey as saying in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 138 km, noting that no material losses or lives were reported, and no tsunami warning was issued.

An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck on the eighteenth of last August, east of Lakatoro on the island of Vanuatu, without reports of injuries.

Vanuatu is an archipelago of volcanic origin located in the South Pacific, 1,750 km northeast of Australia.
