Mindelheim / Memmingen / Region - On January 1, 2022, the fifth largest savings bank in Bavaria was created in Swabia: Sparkasse Schwaben-Bodensee emerged from the legal merger of Kreissparkasse Augsburg and Sparkasse Memmingen-Lindau-Mindelheim. Apart from the name, little has changed yet. The focus is now on the technical merger in April, according to a press release from the Sparkasse. "With the legal merger, we have reached an important milestone on the way to a joint savings bank," says Martin Sailer, district administrator of the Augsburg district and chairman of the administrative board of Sparkasse Schwaben-Bodensee.

Apart from the name, there will be no changes to the customers of the two houses: All accounts will be continued, documents and contracts will remain valid, assures the Sparkasse.

“Our customers will continue to be the focus of our work in the future,” emphasizes Thomas Munding, CEO of Sparkasse Schwaben-Bodensee.

"You keep your contact person for personal advice, which continues to take place via the usual channels - be it in the branch, by phone or via the app."

In terms of its total assets, Sparkasse Schwaben-Bodensee is now, as already reported, the fifth largest savings bank in Bavaria.

The new institute has 1,107 employees and operates 58 branches in the region.

From the point of view of Sparkasse Schwaben-Bodensee, the size represents a decisive advantage. Persistent low interest rate policy, constantly changing customer needs, growing regulation: it is much easier for the merged Sparkasse to master current and future challenges, the press release continues.

And the customers would also benefit from the more efficient house.

Private customers can take advantage of more individual asset management, while additional financing options open up for companies.

In addition, the new Sparkasse sees itself as an attractive employer.

“All of this ultimately strengthens the region, which is growing closer together with the strong savings bank,” says Sailer.

Technical merger in April

The next and final step will be the technical merger on April 23rd and 24th.

Then the two predecessor institutes merge their databases.

Preparations for this are already underway: In November, the two houses informed their customers about upcoming changes as well as the then applicable terms and conditions and prices and asked for their consent.

“We are on schedule with our work.

Everyone involved is already working flat out to ensure that we can also successfully master the technical merger, ”said Munding.
