The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the ratification process for the North Stream 2 project may extend until next summer, without ruling out imposing new US measures.
In response to a question about the possibility of delaying the ratification process of the project, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told Sputnik: “The regulations for the ratification process allow to prolong the matter for several months, and it could be until the summer.”
At the same time, Bankin did not rule out that the ratification process could be complicated by the United States.
The Federal Network Agency for Regulating the Energy Sector in Germany announced earlier that the estimates of completion dates for the issuance of the certification certificate for Nord Stream 2 have not changed, while the head of the Network Agency, Jochen Homann, stated that the certification certificate is not expected to be completed in the first half of 2022.
The German Federal Agency for Energy Regulatory Agency has temporarily suspended the licensing mechanism for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, citing a legal obstacle, noting that certification of the pipeline is only possible if the operator (Nord Stream 2 AG) is legally registered under German law.
The North Stream 2 project includes laying a gas pipeline with a length of about 1,230 km under the Baltic Sea, with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters annually, from the Russian coast to Germany.
