The Ministry of Local Administration and Environment completed a number of works, projects and studies in the field of environment during the year 2021, where solar energy systems were implemented to pump water to more than 40 wells with the aim of irrigating thousands of hectares belonging to more than 300 thousand farmers in the governorates of Damascus countryside, Daraa, Quneitra and Tartous.

According to a report issued by the ministry and a copy of which was received by SANA, during the year 2021, more than 10,735 solar-powered lighting devices were installed on main streets in various governorates, starting in mid-November, after receiving the first batch of devices, panels and poles. The installation and delivery operations are scheduled to continue until It will be completed during the first half of January.

The works of the project to strengthen the capacity of communities were opened in the towns of Zabdin, Deir al-Asafir, Marj al-Sultan and al-Maliha in Eastern Ghouta in the governorate of Rural Damascus in October with the aim of confronting climate changes through integrated management of natural resources and improving the environmental situation by providing the necessary support to them, rehabilitating sewage networks and implementing a treatment plant The location and rehabilitation of irrigation canals and agricultural wells, and pumping their water with solar energy.

According to the report, the implementation of a drought tracking study in Syria has been completed using satellite images, follow-up work on the production of monthly drought indicators, the completion of the project of environmental planning for land uses and the production of maps in Homs governorate, and the announcement of the Jabul Reserve and its biosphere in Aleppo governorate as a human reserve, and the completion of the final report for the second and third phases of the Monitoring and Management Project The integrated environmental environment of the Al-Kabeer Al-Shamali and Al-Abrash river basins, during which a periodic monthly monitoring of a set of water pollution indicators was conducted at predetermined points.
