Around one in five of the statutory health insurances raised their contribution rate at the turn of the year.

According to the contribution list of the central association of statutory health insurance funds, more than a quarter of the 73 million people with statutory health insurance are affected.

In addition to the general contribution rate of 14.6 percent, the health insurance companies can request an additional contribution of their own choosing.

According to the comparison portal Check24, this contribution will be 1.3 percent in 2022, 0.2 percentage points higher than in the previous year.

Health insurance companies whose total contribution is 16 percent or more are considered expensive.

According to the cash register table (see graphic), the most expensive health insurance company is BKK24 with an additional contribution of 2.5 percent.

The total contribution is therefore 17.1 percent.

Nationwide, the company health insurance funds energie-BKK, Continentale BKK, BKK Gildemeister, Seidensticker and Bertelsmann BKK have reduced their contribution.

Regionally, the AOK Northwest, Northeast, Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland / Hamburg, Bremen / Bremerhaven, Hesse, Rhineland Palatinate / Saarland and Baden-Württemberg as well as the BKK exclusive and BKK have increased their contributions.

Policyholders of BKK Technoform, ZF & Partner, DürkoppAdler, Melitta HMR and Herkules pay lower contributions compared to the previous year.

The Bundestag had only approved billions in additional aid for statutory health insurances in November.

Parliament decided on a federal grant totaling 28.5 billion euros for 2022 - another seven billion euros more than originally planned.

The background to this was above all additional expenses and loss of income due to the corona pandemic.
