UNESCO honors the Syrian Law Orchestra

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honored the Syrian Ruginda Law Orchestra for its active participation in the WMC World Music Congress, which was held in the English city of Birmingham.

UNESCO chose the conductor and founder of the orchestra, Uj Ziyad Abu Zeid, as the musical ambassador of Syria in the world.

During the conference, 4 various musical pieces were presented by the orchestra, including (The Night of the Arrest of Fatima), (Longa Bayat), (Disney Films) and (Syrian Colors), through which it relied on presenting the Syrian heritage from various governorates.

Abu Zeid, who praised this honor by the World Music Congress, confirmed that Ruganda seeks to become an international orchestra that raises the name of Syria in all international forums.

Ruganda Ensemble was established in 2019 in As-Suwayda and includes a group of students from the oriental department at the Farid Al-Atrash Institute for Music in Sweida, including qanun players, as well as percussion and cello players of different ages.
