According to an expert paper, a “massive omicron wave” threatens at the end of January.

Politicians in Saxony are given clear recommendations for action.

Dresden - The Omikron variant is on the advance.

This applies not only to France and Great Britain, which are already feeling the clear consequences of supply *, but also in Germany.

Germany is almost two weeks behind in terms of development, estimates the Corona Expert Council.

But calculations from Saxony now show how violent the Omikron wave could be.

Omikron forecast in Saxony: “Massive wave” expected at the end of January

The Saxon state government had extended its current Corona * regulation - the strictest in Germany - unchanged on Tuesday by one week until January 14th.

Until then, one hopes for a better data situation - and one wants to wait for the Corona-MPK on Friday.

But then there could be no easing, but rather tightening in Saxony.

This emerges from an expert paper that was presented to the Saxon cabinet on Tuesday and about which the

reports.

In it, the expert committee of statisticians and epidemiologists around the biostatistician Markus Löffler predicts a "massive omicron wave" for the end of January.

Omikron wave: Experts have clear suggestions for rules

In Saxony alone, it was calculated that 60,000 to 95,000 positive tests per day would be at the beginning of February.

The calculation is based on the assumption that the Omikron variant is eight times as contagious as the Delta variant, according to the report.

According to studies from Great Britain, significantly fewer people would have to go to clinics, but this effect is offset by the sheer number of infections.

"Almost all citizens will go through an infection," quotes the

from the paper.

The only thing left to do then is not to let the top get too high.

The experts recommend that you continue to rely heavily on vaccinations and boosters.

They even recommend a second booster vaccination.

In addition, the 2G-Plus rules should be tightened in retail and catering.

Means: Vaccinated and convalescent people only have access with a valid test.

At Omikron, too, the group of over 60s is particularly at risk.

The committee recommends further protective measures for these, but leaves open what these might look like.
