Munich Airport: vacationers collapse - police officers save his life

A 50-year-old man from Hallertau was at the airport that day.

According to the police, he wanted to fly on vacation to Thailand and was still waiting for boarding for his flight to Phuket via Abu Dhabi.

Suddenly the man collapsed unconscious on an escalator.

This was noticed by an employee of a duty-free shop, who immediately alerted the four officers to the incident.

Courageous intervention at Munich Airport: Young police officers save vacationers' lives

Without hesitation, the four young men, two of them still trainees from Bamberg, took action and saved the man's life.

The 50-year-old was unconscious, and his pulse and breathing were initially undetectable.

One of the police officers, who fortunately is also a trained paramedic, and his colleague immediately started the resuscitation measures.

The two colleagues, who were part of the federal police at Munich Airport, cordoned off the area around the operation, called the emergency doctor and got a defibrillator.

The man, who was born in Dachau, was eventually transported by rescue helicopter to a nearby hospital with a suspected heart attack.

As the police announced on appeal from the doctors, the man is now on the mend and, thanks in part to the courageous intervention of the young police trainees, is expected to recover completely.
