An alarming record: more than 850,000 calves and lambs were transported in live shipments in 2021 | Israel today

2022-01-04T14:19:06.364Z

The data in 2021 are 42% higher than in 2020 • Efforts to advance legislation to stop shipments within three years are increasing • Animals Association: "Industry activists tweet about the auditor's report"

The live shipping industry is expanding:

in 2021, 856,630 calves and patches were transported to Israeli ports on live shipping ships, an increase of about 42% compared to 2020. Efforts to promote legislation to gradually stop live shipments within three years are growing, and seven bills have been tabled Of the 24th Knesset.

During 2020, 601,741 animals were transported to Israel (of which 45,440 were transferred to the PA). The increase is also extreme compared to the previous peak year, 2019, in which 691,327 calves and lambs were transported to Israel during the difficult journeys.

Animals, which promotes the cessation of live shipments, said: "The live shipments industry is an extreme and ruthless minority, allowing itself to run amok at the expense of helpless calves and lambs. "Feces, sick, injured and desperate. They beep at the State Comptroller's report which found failures upon failures in this dubious industry, and they beep at 86% of Israelis who support legislation to stop live shipments because they oppose abuse."

"We call on the Knesset members and the government to put an end to the madness and act urgently to stop the live shipments," the Animals Association agreed.
