At least 23 people were killed in armed clashes in Arauca, eastern Colombia.

Colombian Deputy Defense Minister Jairo Garcia said at a press conference last night that at least 23 people have been reported killed so far in battles between two armed groups competing to control illegal activities such as drug smuggling, AFP quoted Colombian Deputy Defense Minister Jairo Garcia as saying at a press conference last night.

In this context, Colombian President Ivan Duque held a meeting of the leaders of the army and police to assess the situation in Arauca and take measures to address it, explaining that he had ordered the deployment of two battalions within 72 hours to assist in the task of controlling the land.
