(CNN) ––

US President Joe Biden said in a message to the nation that the next few weeks will be "complex," as omicron cases continue to rise.

However, he urged Americans to continue with mitigation measures against covid-19 and to get vaccinated.

"I know we are all tired and frustrated by the pandemic. These next few weeks will be complex. Please wear your masks in public to protect yourself and others. We are going to overcome this. We are going to overcome it together," the president said.

"We have the tools to protect people from serious diseases caused by omicron if people decide to use the tools," added Biden.

"We have the drugs that can save so many lives and drastically reduce the impact that covid-19 has had in our country," he added.

The president said there are "many reasons for hope" this year, but called for "for the love of God, take advantage of what is available" to save lives.
