CDC Supports Shortening Times Between Covid Vaccines and Booster

The CDC supported the FDA's decision to shorten the times from six to five months between the first doses of Pfizer and the booster dose.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday backed the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) decision to shorten the time needed between complete an initial series of Pfizer / BioNTech covid-19 vaccines and a six-month to five-month booster dose.

The CDC also agreed with the FDA's call to authorize a third dose in the series of primary vaccines for some immunosuppressed children ages 5 to 11, in line with its recommendation for moderately or severely immunocompromised adults.

In the same announcement, the FDA authorized expanding the eligibility of booster shots for teens ages 12 to 15.

CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss this issue.
