“Something like that shouldn't have happened,” said Steffen Krach.

After a Corona breakdown with children's vaccinations, the President of the Hanover Region wants to check all processes.

Hanover - The number of vaccinations against the corona virus is gradually starting again in Germany after the holidays.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), at least 129,069 doses were administered on Sunday (January 2).

Booster vaccinations now make up the largest share.

But there are also daily first and second vaccinations - including for children.

A breakdown has now occurred in Hanover.

In the vaccination center at the zoo, a total of 42 boys and girls received an excessively high dose of the corona vaccine.

They were injected with the higher concentration for adults.

For the children, the vaccine was actually intended for five to eleven year olds, a spokeswoman for the Hanover region announced on Monday (January 3).

According to the senior specialist at the health department, Marlene Graf, however, no serious consequences of the corona breakdown are to be expected.

“According to our knowledge, possible side effects should be limited to local reactions and fever reactions.

From a medical point of view, it is an unnecessary increased dose of the vaccine that should not have a negative effect, "said Graf, according to the announcement.

All parents of the children concerned had been informed directly by the regional administration by phone and email, it said.

Vaccination breakdown in Hanover: "Something like that shouldn't have happened"

"Even if no serious health consequences are to be expected, something like this should not have happened," said regional president Steffen Krach (SPD).

"This must not be repeated under any circumstances, we have to check all processes again," he explained.

The region will immediately analyze how the error could have come about.

Corona vaccinations for children aged five to eleven began on a large scale in Germany in December, according to the Stiko recommendation.

Shortly after the start, there was also a bad vaccination breakdown in North Rhine-Westphalia.

There, children were injected with a vaccine that was not approved for them.
