Seat's successful and successful supermini landed in Israel after a facelift. We took the new FR version with the powerful engine for first driving and discovered a rather peppery package

If you are young, or have been young for the past 20 years, there is no need to introduce you to the Seat Ibiza - one of the most popular supermini cars in Israel.

The current generation of the Seat Ibiza was introduced in 2017 and won last year a mid-life facelift.

The renewed Ibiza arrived in Israel recently with the addition of reinforcement, literally, on offer, with an FR version with a 1.5-liter engine.

In the driveway

As part of the facelift, the seat designers hardly touched the design and it's good that the Ibiza direction looks fresh and up to date today, but still received small touches in the lighting units and air intakes in the front bumper.

The FR version upgrades the look with the extras that the target audience likes: fog lights, large and prominent rims (18 inches) and a panoramic sunroof.

The cabin has received a more significant update, with a redesign of the entire instrument panel.

The multimedia system has a larger screen (9.2 inches in FR) with a new and modern interface and has risen one floor at the expense of the main air vents.

At least the new interface is not too new and leaves control of the air conditioning system through physical controls.

The quality of the materials has improved and now the top of the dashboard is made of soft plastic with a sporty honeycomb texture.

In the area of safety Ibiza now finally also offers an active lane departure correction system that joins adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency suspension and 6 airbags.

taking off

The 1.5-liter engine is familiar from countless models of the Volkswagen Group and offers 150 hp and 25.5 hp in combination with the dual-clutch DSG gearbox.

These figures are enough to make the Ibiza one of the most agile small cars in the area (8.2 seconds per 100 jumps), with power available in almost every mode and fast gear changes.

The FR has stiffened racks relative to the standard Ibiza.

This is especially noticeable on a city trip when together with large rims and low-cut rubber a rather bouncy ride is obtained.

Improved ride comfort outside the city but there also stands out imperfect road noise isolation.

In the FR turns precise, grips well and knows how to produce a fast pace, but it lacks a bit of chassis pepper and less detached steering to give a real sporty feel.

End of track

With a price tag of 125,000 Ibiza FR is not exactly the cheapest supermini around.

And keep in mind that it has weaker and simpler versions that might suit those who are less in a hurry on the road.

Alongside these, this version, offers a vigorous look, fragrance and performance, ones that go well with the temperamental image of this brand.

If you add the list of nice armor to these, you get a rather unique offer.
