Berlin's governing mayor Franziska Giffey has announced a new vaccination offensive against Corona.

"We have to come up with something if we want to reach those who we have not yet reached," said the SPD politician on Tuesday.

The Senate has therefore agreed to offer vaccinations for entire families in the 49 family centers in the city.

Berlin - In addition, more "outreach offers" are planned in socially disadvantaged areas and immigrant communities, where there are often reservations about corona vaccinations.

Here you can achieve little with the previous "standard information channels".

To this end, the Senate is relying on cooperation with multipliers, such as religious communities.

She will speak to various agencies about this in the coming days, said Giffey.

According to her, special vaccination routes are also planned for employees in the so-called critical infrastructure.

There, employees could be vaccinated by the police, rescue services, fire brigade or water companies, for example.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 71.8 percent of Berliners are currently vaccinated twice or have received a single vaccination from Johnson & Johnson.

75.3 percent are vaccinated at least once.

38.9 percent also received a booster vaccination.

Against the Omikron variant, the immune protection decreases sharply over time without such a booster vaccination.

The booster campaign and the child vaccination campaign went well, said Giffey.

But with the first vaccinations you are not making progress as desired.

"We are stepping on the spot a little".

The goal by the end of January is a rate of 80 percent.

There is still a lot to be done to achieve this goal.

"We have to think about how we can get higher and how we can go other ways to reach more people." Dpa
