Berlin's governing mayor Franziska Giffey has announced that the mask requirement will be tightened due to the high corona numbers and the more contagious Omikron virus variant.
"In my opinion, the probability that we will take this step is relatively high," said the SPD politician on Tuesday after a Senate meeting.
The Senate wants to discuss how to proceed next week after the Prime Minister's Conference (MPK) planned for this Friday.
Berlin - An FFP2 mask requirement for buses and trains is "one of the obvious steps".
So far, medical masks have been prescribed in local public transport, but also in many other areas of public life, such as in retail outlets or at certain events.
This definition includes FFP2 masks, but also simpler surgical masks.
It is known that the protective effect of an FFP2 mask is higher, according to Giffey.
From their point of view, an FFP2 mask requirement is therefore a proportionate means.
