A key suspect in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse has been extradited to the United States, the Colombian National Police reported in a statement Tuesday morning.
Mario Palacios, a Colombian national, was being deported from Jamaica to Colombia when he was intercepted in Panama.
He was later extradited from Panama to Miami, according to the Colombian National Police.
"The three countries (Panama, Colombia and the United States) were in constant contact coordinating this deportation and the last extradition to the United States, yesterday," said the Director General of the Colombian National Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia.

Palacios will make his first court appearance at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Southern District of Florida, US Attorney's Office spokeswoman Marlene Rodríguez said.
He faces two charges: conspiracy to provide material support resulting in the death of a foreign leader, and conspiracy to kidnap and kill a foreign leader.

Despite several arrests made in Haiti, Palacios will be the first suspect charged in connection with the Moïse murder.
