A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rocked the Ogasawara Islands in the Pacific Ocean, south of the Japanese capital, Tokyo, today.
"The earthquake shook the Ogasawara islands at a depth of 77 kilometers, but there were no reports of casualties or damage," Kyodo news agency quoted the Japan Geological Monitoring Agency as saying.
An official in the Meteorological Agency warned of aftershocks of up to 5 degrees in the coming days.
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where seismic and volcanic activities abound.
